Old Port Square
Safdie Architects has unveiled a landmark proposal for Portland, Maine, designing the city’s tallest building as part of a reimagined downtown urban heart. Rising 30 storeys, the mixed-use tower draws inspiration from coastal architecture, referencing the form and presence of a lighthouse within Maine’s maritime landscape.
The Boundary crafted a series of CGIs to bring this ambitious vision to life, illustrating how the tower’s scale and warmth will sit within a city defined by low-rise character. Through atmospheric storytelling and careful attention to light, the imagery highlights Safdie Architects’ sensitive addition to Portland’s evolving skyline.
Set across four acres in the historic Old Port neighbourhood, the Old Port Square development will introduce a 380-foot-tall residential and commercial tower alongside a transparent retail pavilion. The scheme is supported by wider public realm improvements developed in collaboration with Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture and graphic design studio Pentagram.
